Why I began this project:
The motivation behind this movement stems from witnessing women struggling to understand why they cannot become pregnant, girls using long term hormonal drugs to manage periods with no revision or enquiry until adulthood and women unable to see any alternative other than surgery to manage menopause in later life.
Establishing INFORMED CONSENT for girls who may be contemplating using "the pill" or other hormonal contraceptives is IMPERATIVE as:
Research has found that hormonal contraceptives affect the brain. Many teenage and pre-teen girls choose hormonal contraception as a form of “period management”. With little knowledge of the broader neurological issues surrounding hormonal drugs doctors are unable to inform their patients of these impacts. (1,2)
Sadly many Women and Girls view the menstrual cycle as a burden. Girls are not educated to learn the positive vital signs of health their period provides and few understand the implications contraceptive choices have on future fertility and their overall health later in life.
We work to support more extensive research in this area as a matter of urgency.

Hi fellow traveller!
My work is the culmination of my education and life experiences. I have worked in many areas of healthcare for 3 decade and understand that health is not found in a pill or diagnosed by a single test. Observing patterns and encouraging the body's innate homeostatic balance underpins my approach to medicine. Offering a fusion of East Meets West I draw from the enormous pool of ancestral traditional medicine and contemporary analysis and evidenced based "omics".
I encourage my clients to live with healthy intentions, demonstrating that once we direct our desire towards health and honour the stage of life we are in our bodies will carry us where we intend to go.
I draw from my own skills and energetic intuition. As an integrative medicine practitioner
I refer to allied and medical practitioners when your condition is beyond my scope or whom may be better suited to your needs. Working alongside your medical doctors for complementary care in cases that need a multidisciplinary approach. I use quantifiable, evidence based and scientific testing to give my clients information on how to fill the gaps the Medicare system is able to provide in the hope that they will have better outcomes sooner.
I completed my Masters at RMIT University in 2018 where I researched complex musculoskeletal pain (specifically Fibromyalgia) and the comparative effectiveness of Acupuncture, Physical Therapy and Talk Based Therapy for reducing pain and improving quality of life. (Acupuncture is statistically effective you'll be pleased to know!). I am a registered herbalist and Chinese Medicine Dispenser with a Master of Applied Science in Chinese Herbal Medicine also from RMIT.
As an Ethnopharmacologist & researcher I help medical/allied health practitioners and the general public understand pharmacologic use of natural medicine in Women's Health and Menopause. I am also experienced in interactions between drugs and phyto-chemicals and mineralocorticoid effects of herbs on hormone and enzyme metabolism, absorption and elimination, induction and inhibition.
I've worked as a Myotherapist in private practice and hospital setting for over 2 decades. I have lectured at Endeavour College of Natural Health, taught, studied and practiced Yoga extensively in India; Schooled in traditional Sivanada Lineage as Yoga Acharya (Master of Yoga). I am a student of Dr Ray Long, Orthopaedic Surgeon and founder of Bandha Yoga. I am trained in Neurogenic Yoga and trauma aware. I have hosted retreats in Bali and Australia and continue to offer customised retreats and training programmes for NDIS patients, child-care centres and women's health centres.
I lead training programs and health retreats for professionals in the field of compassion and educate health practitioners about herbal medicine in menopause and oncology - an area that is deeply misunderstood by the medical community and often used inappropriately by the alternative industry. I am a fierce advocate of the menstrual cycle as the 5th vital sign and teach natural methods of contraception and fertility. My social enterprise; "The Downstairs Project" - is a privately funded platform aimed at fertility preservation and alternatives to pharmaceutical contraceptives to reduce the impact of these drugs on developing minds and bodies.
My sister Foundation; Bodhisattva Health is founded on the premise of responding to the social and environmental challenges of our time. Promoting Unity of Religions, the self as the source of healing and the butterfly effect; understanding that we can only control our own actions and those actions can send waves of trauma or be a tsunami of positive change.
My administration skills are a work in progress. I also house one husband, 2 kids, a dog, 2 cats and hundreds of guppies. I never stop learning and am always reading, and when not committed and hyper-focused... I'm traveling the world to learn from the source and documenting family history along the way.
I am continually growing The Downstairs Project through research & developing resources for health professionals and enlightened women. Register your interest as a participant or contribute by contacting me here.

Currently there are no free public resources for women who wish to learn more about natural methods of period management and family planning. Doctors are not taught natural methods of contraception in university. Natural contraceptive methods are proven as effective as the OCP, however religious connotations and pro-life political affiliations hold back the development of better research evidence in the area of biological, natural fertility management and preservation. Our research efforts are gathering momentum and our longitudinal research is ongoing. We aim to prove that natural family planning methods taught early results in better fertility outcomes and fewer medical gynaecological interventions

We lobby for government funding for the instruction of natural methods of contraception and natural family planning. Currently there are no free public resources for women who wish to learn more about natural methods of period management and family planning.
We see a world where fertility preservation and female social equity are not at odds. Feminist movements have emphasised different social values at different times in history. The suffragettes moved for work equality and pioneered our sexual freedoms. Eco-feminism analyses the relationships of gender to ecological values. Gyne_ecology is the movement towards better educated women so they can choose to work or stay at home, have kids early or later, choose natural or pharmaceutical contraception from evidence based, well researched sources and have a trusted resource supported by industry professionals without political religious affiliation.
We provide methods to begin this communication at the earliest age possible with the most appropriate material in a chronological method.
Development of safe and supportive forums for girls, and women to ask questions that are not associated with social media platforms or economic motivations. In a google age, our kids have access to information about sex. What is lacking is the quality of information. We support the development of sex education that is biologically, anatomically and functionally appropriate for each life stage and is not based merely on fear of pregnancy and STD's.
Linking women to appropriate health care and resources in a non-secular, non dogmatic manner.
Infertility has many causes. IVF is a stressful and incredibly complex process. Often women are poorly advised about the side effects & risks on their overall health when synthetic hormones are introduced. We lobby for more transparency in the IVF industry who need to regard the whole woman throughout the process.
"The shared core of behavioural norms among health professions are all grounded in core moral principles this points to many opportunities for building effective inter-professional communication and collaboration regarding the development, management, and use of health information resources and technologies" G Bryd et al.
We advocate that period/cycle tracking technology should be carefully considered by users and regulated as medical for medical devices offering it's users complete transparency on how ones data is used and how predictive insights have been tested and measured. Many phone applications offer women insight into their periods and offer advice. However these services are all based on selling products. We support the sharing of information as long as it is offered in a transparent and non-maleficent manner.
Side effects and adverse effects of interventions are very seldom given enough time in consultation with women presenting for reproductive management in non primary care settings and in general practice.
Interactions with hormonal contraceptives need to be explicit and further studied. Better collaboration with pharmacy and general practice to ensure women know all of the facts well past pregnancy avoidance is crucial to the developing woman she is becoming. A salutogenic approach to fertility preservation should be considered when prescribing hormonal contraception to all women of reproductive age.
Especially in the highly marketable menopausal demographic where polypharmacy is an issue.
